Roadmap

Where the initiative is headed

An initiative in development, built step by step with the industry.

The initiative is inviting organizations and gathering input now. The plan is to draft common learning objectives with contributors, review them openly, engage state departments of insurance as appraiser and umpire licensing develops, and, as a long-term aspiration, present the completed work to the NAIC for consideration.

The steps

  1. Invite the industry. All organizations that train and certify appraisers and umpires have been invited. Under way.
  2. Gather input and nominations. Practitioners, umpires, educators and organizations share ideas and put contributors forward. Open now. Take part.
  3. Draft the core. Contributors develop common learning objectives for competent, ethical appraisal practice.
  4. Review together. Drafts are shared for industry feedback so the result reflects common ground.
  5. Engage the states. As states implement or consider appraiser and umpire licensing, we intend to engage with state departments of insurance and contribute practical industry experience to licensing requirements and educational standards.
  6. A national resource. Our long-term ambition is to present the completed work to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) for consideration as a resource for a future appraisal model that individual states could consider.

Please note: NAIC and state endorsement have not been obtained. Steps 5 and 6 describe intentions, not existing relationships, and progress will be announced as it is confirmed.
